Saudi Arabian authorities have launched a full probe into the deadly stampede in Makkah in Saudi Arabia.
At least 700 people were killed and more than 800 others injured in the tent city of Mina on Thursday as Hujjaj were making their way to pelt the jamarat, one of the rituals of hajj which symbolically signifies the stoning of the devil.
Chair of the Saudi Hajj Commitee, Prince Mohamed bin Nayef ordered the probe on Thursday in Mina, where the stampede took place.
The Saudi Press Agency reports The findings of the investigation will be submitted to the custodian of the two holy Mosques King Salman, “who will take appropriate measures” in response.
Interior Ministry spokesman Mansour Al-Turki says the stampede happened as a result of Hujjaj meeting at intersections of Street 204 intersecting with the Street 223.
He says high temperatures and fatigue due to Hujjaj stay at Arafat could also be other factors.
The stampede is the deadliest event to afflict the Hajj pilgrimage in more than two decades.
