Saudi Embassy Acknowledges Visa Vaccination Error

January 17, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 17-01-2017

The Royal Embassy in South Africa says a circular indicating that vaccinations to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would be administered by only one medical doctor incorrectly specified it was required for all visas including hajj and umrah.

Yesterday the embassy issued a statement saying it will accept only medical reports/vaccinations which are required for Saudi visas from designated physician Dr. Junaid Hoosen from the Family Medical Centre in Sandton.

The embassy has confirmed the statement did not specify the type of visa and created a misunderstanding among the South African Muslim community.

The embassy says the type of visas intended in the circular are for work and residence visas.

“The Family Medical Centre is not the only designated and accredited entity by the Royal Embassy for the purpose of medical reports and vaccinations.”

Activist Yusuf Abramjee has welcomed the decision by the embassy.

“I am delighted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia embassy in Pretoria has withdrawn and retracted the letter giving exclusivity to the one doctor. They’ve again made it very clear this particular services are open to all doctors across South Africa and does not apply to hajj and umrah.”

The embassy says it is currently in the process of accrediting medical centres including private and government hospitals in ensuring that these facilities cover the main centres in South Africa.
