As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia tries to stop the spread of COVID-19, the Islamic Affairs Ministry has announced that Taraweeh salaah during the blessed month of Ramadan will be suspended and only be performed at home.
Gulf News reports that Al Riyadh newspaper quoted Saudi Islamic Affairs Minister Dr. Abdul Latif Al Sheikh, saying the suspension of performing the five daily prayers at mosques is more important than the suspension of Taraweeh prayers.
“We ask Allah the Almighty to accept Taraweeh prayers whether held at mosques, or homes, which we think is better for people’s health. We ask Allah the Almighty to accept prayers from all of us and protect humanity from this epidemic that hit the entire world.”
Last week it emerged that Umrah during the blessed month of Ramadan will remain suspended as the Kingdom battles to stop the spread of COVID-19
Al Sheikh also announced a limit for people attending a funeral.
“This is a precaution in line with the prohibition of gatherings, so that funeral prayers take place at cemeteries should not exceed five to six of the deceased’s relatives, and the rest pray at their homes.”
At the same time Saudi Arabia also announced. a two-week ceasefire in Yemen in line with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guturres call last month and part of the Kingdoms effort to de-escalate the conflict.
Saudi Arabia also announced a contribution of $ 500 million to the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen in 2020, including $ 25 million to help combat the outbreak of the emerging Coronavirus pandemic COVID-19.
