Saudi Arabia has suspended all international commercial flights for a week.
This comes after reports of the appearance of a new mutated strain of COVID-19 in a number of European countries including South Africa.
Citing a source from the Saudi Interior Ministry, the Saudi Press Agency reports the Kingdom has also decided to close its land as sea borders.
According to the source, the suspension of international travel except for emergency cases is part of the precautionary measures seeking to ensure the health and safety of citizens.
There are reports that the suspension may be extended by an additional week.
It’s understood the measures will be reviewed in the light of the developments related to the pandemic based on the assessment of the Health Ministry.
