Saudi Arabia Extends Condolences to Khashoggi Family

October 22, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 22-10-2018

Saudi Arabia has called the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi a “huge and grave mistake,” saying Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had not been aware.

The Saudi Press Agency reports Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman both called Khashoggi’s son, Salah, to express their condolences.

Saudi Arabia said the 59-year-old journalist died in a fight inside its Istanbul consulate after he entered the building on 2 October to obtain a document certifying he divorced his ex-wife and wasn’t seen since.

According to the report by SPA, Khashoggi’s son thanked the king and the crown prince.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir speaking to US broadcaster Fox also extended condolences to Khashoggi’s family.

“This is a terrible mistake. This is a terrible tragedy. Our condolences go out to them. We feel their pain. Unfortunately, a huge and grave mistake was made and I assure them that those responsible will be held accountable for this.”

Jubeir also says the Saudis did not know how Khashoggi, a Saudi national and US resident, had been killed or where his body was saying Prince Mohammed was not responsible.
