Al Arabiya reports that three soldiers from the Saudi Ministry of Défence had been executed on Saturday for high treason.
The Ministry said that investigations had revealed that the three ministry employees committed treason in collaboration with the enemy in a way that violated the Kingdom and its ‘military interests. The ministry, however, failed to disclose details of the alleged “enemy”.
The three were convicted in a specialized court, and a royal order serving as a death warrant followed theirconviction. The executions were reportedly carried out in the southern province bordering Yemen.
According to Al Arabiya, ehe Kingdoms Ministry of Defense denounced the “heinous crime” that was “alien to the country’s values.”
Rights groups, including Amnesty International, have previously called on Riyadh to stop the use of the death penalty, accusing the Kingdom of torture and unfair trials, accusations which Saudi Arabia has denied.
