Saudi Arabia Dismiss Threats Over Missing Khashoggi Vowing it Would Retaliate

October 14, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 14-10-2018

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has dismissed threats of sanctions over the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and vowed it would retaliate with consequences for the world economy.

AFP reports, Saudi Arabia’s reaction came hours after US President Donald Trump threatened Riyadh with “severe punishment” if Khashoggi was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul as alleged.

An official source quoted by state news agency SPA says the kingdom would “respond to any action with a bigger one”, pointing out that the oil superpower “plays an effective and vital role in the world economy”.

“The kingdom affirms its total rejection of any threats or attempts to undermine it whether through threats to impose economic sanctions or the use of political pressure.”

Khashoggi, a contributor to the Washington Post, has not been seen since he walked off the Saudi consulate on 2 October.

Saudi Arabia has rejected allegations the journalist was murdered inside its mission and saying he had left the consulate safely.

In a twitter post, the Kingdom says the government and the people are steadfast and glorious as ever against any pressures and circumstances it might face.

It also says the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia extends it appreciation to all, including the US administration, for refraining from jumping to conclusions on the ongoing investigation.
