Saudi Arabia Allows Direct Entry into Kingdom for Fully Vaccinated Expats from Banned Countries including South Africa

August 25, 2021

Faizel Patel – 25/08/2021

Saudi Arabia has announced that fully vaccinated expats from countries which faced a travel ban will now be allowed to travel to the kingdom.

The directives were issued by the Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry on Tuesday.

Saudi Gazette reports the new decision will be applicable only to those foreigners who have a valid residency permit (iqama) and left the Kingdom on exit and reentry visa after taking two doses of vaccine against coronavirus from Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia temporarily suspended all international flights from March last year following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and banned a number of countries from entering the kingdom including South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India among others.

The ministry says all other segments including Umrah pilgrims are required to spend 14-day quarantine in a third country before their entry into the Kingdom.

Last month the Kingdom announced that the resumption for Umrah for international pilgrims would begin on 1 Muharram of the Islamic calendar 1443 corresponding to around 9 August.

Pilgrims who intend travelling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with complete doses of either Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Johnson and Johnson while complete doses of Chinese vaccines must be accompanied by booster shots from other vaccines.
