SANHA Clears Fordsburg Restaurant After Rodent Incident

December 08, 2014

The South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA) has given a restaurant in Fordsburg the all clear after a dead mouse was found in a plate of biryani a few weeks ago.

“Upon receipt of an image purportedly of a mouse in Biryani purchases from Bayleaf Restaurant an unfounded in-loco investigation was conducted by SANHA Management and inspectorate,” the certifying body said in a statement.

“During this investigation and all previous audits over the past 4 years that the Restaurant has been in operation, we have never encountered any incident of rodent infestation or signs thereof.

SANHA said the manner in which the biryani was batched, measured and filled into styrofoam packs has been contstant for many years and in their opinion the possibility of such freak incidents occurring is remote.

“Accordingly based on our regular audits to this outlet, we assure the community that their products are Halaal and that adequate steps have been taken to prevent such food safety hazards,” said SANHA

Recently fresh products from Woolworths have also come under the spotlight when a dead insect believed to be a cockroach was discovered inside a pack of noodles, while another customer discovered a dead frog in his salad.
