SANEF Condemns Communication Ministers Actions at the ANC Manifesto Launch

February 11, 2019

Radio Islam International – 2019/02/11

The South African National Editors Forum has condemned the actions of Communications Minister Stella Ndebeni Abrahams labelling it a ‘dangerous precedent’ after she attempted to block an SABC News cameramen from filming footage of irate crowds at the ANC’s Manifesto Launch in the Eastern Cape.

The Fourm’s Mary Papayya told Radio Islam that the minister’s actions were tantamount to censorship.

“As a minister, given your portfolio and given more especially your link to the South African broadcasting corporation (SABC), the public broadcaster, she’s now put out a statement saying that it was a mere altercation, but there was no altercation.”

Papayya says the forum will be meeting with the minister on Wednesday.
