Salaah As A Cure

July 01, 2021

Salaah is not only the most crucial pillar next to Imaan, but it is also a means of deriving tremendous benefits and blessings in this world and the hereafter.

It is also a means of drawing Almighty Allah’s help and protection against all types of difficulties. There are countless examples of this from the lifetime of our beloved Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and his companions  Radiyallahu Anhum.

In a verse of the Noble Qur’an, Almighty Allah says:

وَاسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى الْخَاشِعِينَ (45)

“And seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is a burden except for the humble… Surah Baqara Verse 45”

Sayyidina Huzaifah Radiyallahu Anhu said that whenever Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam happened to face any difficulty, he would at once resort to Salaah. [Abu Dawood]

Salaah also has tremendous healing power. Once, our Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam saw Sayyidina Abu Huraira lying on his stomach, so he asked him, “Are you suffering from stomach pain?” He said, “Yes.” Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, “Then get up and busy yourself in Salaah, for that will heal you.” [ibn Katheer]

In these challenging days, let us turn to Salaah as a  means of seeking Shifaa. When recovering from COVID-19, physiotherapy is vital. Patients are advised to become mobile and engage in moderate physical exercise.

Two Rakaats of Salaah have 14 postures in them. Thus, each Muslim is under obligation to perform 119 postures per day and a minimum of 3750 postures per month.

Doctors say that the postures of Ruku and Sajdah are good for the recovery of the lungs.

A COVID-19 patient told me that she found the daily performance of Salaah Tasbeeh very beneficial in her recovery.

So together with the spiritual benefits of Salah, there are also the physical and medical benefits.

May Almighty Allah make us steadfast on Salaah. Aameen.
