The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) has partnered with Saudi Arabian mobile service provider Mobily providing South African hujjaj with a free sim card for the upcoming hajj.

With the rapid pace of technology, communicating with loved ones back home has become much easier for those that embark on hajj.

Many hujjaj also use their mobile devices to share memories of their journey of a lifetime by posting pictures and sound clips to social media platforms.

According to Sahuc, on activation of the Mobily sim, Hujjaj will receive 2GB of free data valid for three days on the first recharge of the account.

Sahuc’s Moaaz Casoo says the partnership with Mobily will ensure that hujjaj can communicate immediately once in the kingdom.

“The hujjaj are no obligated to use the sim card that we are providing. We are just making it easy for those hujjaj when they arrive in the kingdom, at least they have a sim card which will be activated by Mobily, so they can send their loved ones back home a message to say that everything is fine and they have reached safely.”

Casoo says the Mobily sim card can only be activated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
