The South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) says it has not received any official confirmation with regards to Umrah and visa costs.
In a statment, the hajj body says they are aware of the reports in the media in Saudi Arabia that the kingdom that Umrah visa costs will be implemented for the forthcoming Umrah season.
Secretary General Hassen Choonara says while the reports are a worldwide ruling from the Saudi Government it is not exclusive to South Africa.
“We have received no official communication from the embassy in Pretoria or from any authorities in the kingdom with regards to the Umrah visa costs. SAHUC has made enquiries on this matter.”
Choonara says SAHUC does not regulate or sell Umrah or Hajj visas and that hajj visas which are part of the 2,000 quota are free of charge.
He says the role of SAHUC is to administer Hajj in South Africa according to the dictates and rules and regulations of the authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
