African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says the party has learnt it’s lesson and will never again fall victim to rampant corruption.
Ramaphosa was addressing the media after casting his ballot at the Hitekani Primary School in Chiawelo, Soweto on Wednesday.
He was accompanied by his wife Dr Tshepo Motsepe.
Ramaphosa received a raucous reception from the voters and supporters that had gathered to watch him cast his vote.
He says government is going to steam ahead and address the needs of South Africans.
“Our people hate corruption, they don’t appreciate corruption and they know that corruption acts against their interests which takes money out of their mouth. It takes money out of service delivery. So we’ve learnt our lesson.”
Ramaphosa also says government must hasten service delivery.
“I’ve been saying that I don’t want any further excuses. I just want us to work. Work in implementing our policies and doing what is right by our people. It’s going to be my overriding concern, day in and day out.”
Ramaphosa has described the 2019 elections as a new beginning for South Africa.
