The acting CEO of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Jimi Mathews has resigned.
In a letter to the chairman of the SABC Mbulayeni Maguvhe which Matthews tweeted this morning, he says the corrosive atmosphere at the SABC has impacted negatively on his moral judgement and had made him complicit in many decisions that he is not proud of.
“For many months I have compromised the that I hold dear under the mistaken belief that I could be more effective inside the SABC than outside, passing comments from the side-lines,” Matthews wrote in the in the letter.
Matthews has also apologised to the people he feels he let down by remaining silent when he’s voice needed to be heard.
“What is happening at the SABC is wrong and I can no longer be part of it.”
