The South African Weather Service has warned of an intense cold front expected to make landfall on Monday lasting into the coming weekend.
The weather says adverse weather conditions includes snowfall over Lesotho and the southern Drakensberg mountains in the Eastern Cape, rain along the Wild Coast and north eastern KwaZulu-Natal and freezing temperatures over the high lying areas of the Eastern Cape, Free State, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.
It says the coldest areas would be the Western Cape, parts of the Northern Cape and the interior of the Eastern Cape, where maximum temperatures of 15ºC are expected.
In Gauteng, the mercury in Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of 18ºC while a maximum of 20ºC has been set for Pretoria.
The weather service says heavy rain over the Eastern Cape is expected to result in localised flooding of roads and settlements along the Wild coast and adjacent interior.
