A South African Muslim living in Saudi Arabia has described the feeling of casting his ballot in a foreign country as an amazing feeling.
Several South Africans living across the globe in various countries say Saturday’s voting process was “smooth sailing.”
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says there were no major logistical issues at the different voting stations.
Anas Piloda says he and his wife Bibi Ayesha Ebrahim cast their ballots at the South African embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
“It was absolutely amazing to be able to do this knowing that we are so far away from home, thousands and thousands of miles away from home. However it was really sad knowing that there are thousands of South Africans living in Riyadh, but only about two hundred and fifty or so registered to vote.”
Back home South Africans will head to the polls on the 8th of May.
