SA Green ID Book Valid Until Further Notice

November 21, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 21-11-2017

The Home Affairs Department says a message indicating that the lifespan of the green South African ID book will come to an end in March next year is false.

The message which was widely spread on social media yesterday and purportedly from the department announces that green ID book would not be valid and that citizens should apply for the new smart ID cards.

The department says no such announcement has been made by home affairs.

Spokesperson David Hlabane says the department has developed a plan to systematically phase out the green ID book.

“The old green ID book remains the legal formal form of identification for citizens of the country until such time that we have announced as the department of home affairs. But we also encourage people to continue applying for our smart cards.”
