SA COVID-19 Recovery Rate Now at 76%

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 572,865.

This is an increase of 3,946 from Wednesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 260 bringing the total to 11,270.

Gauteng has the most infections with 195,820 followed by Western Cape at 100,976, Eastern Cape at 83,002, KwaZulu-Natal 102,233, Free State 30,049, North West 22,483, Mpumalanga 20,111, Limpopo 11,019, Northern Cape 7,122 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 437,617 which translates to a recovery rate of 76%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,315,497 this is an increase of 20,063 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 260 new COVID-19 related deaths: 68 from Eastern Cape, 62 in the Free State, 30 from Gauteng, 39 from KwaZulu Natal, 14 from Limpopo, 18 from Mpumalanga, 21 from Western Cape and 8 from Northern Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 11,270.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
