The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 603,338.
This is an increase of 3,398 from Thursday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 225 bringing the total to 12,843.
Gauteng has the most infections with 202,832 followed by Western Cape at 103,942, Eastern Cape at 84,787, KwaZulu-Natal 108,788, Free State 34,136, North West 24,003, Mpumalanga 22,701, Limpopo 12,281, Northern Cape 8,818 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 500,102 which translates to a recovery rate of 82%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,504,507 this is an increase of 24,224 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably we report 225 new COVID-19 related deaths: 57 from Eastern Cape, 46 from Gauteng, 81 from KwaZulu Natal, 6 from Northern Cape, 10 from North West and 25 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 12,843.
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
