The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 553,188.
This is an increase of 7,712 from Friday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 301 bringing the total to 10,210.
Gauteng has the most infections with 190,999 followed by Western Cape at 99,588, Eastern Cape at 82,074, KwaZulu-Natal 95,648, Free State 27,742, North West 21,642, Mpumalanga 18,734, Limpopo 10,345, Northern Cape 6,366 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 404,568 which translates to a recovery rate of 73%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,220,265 this is an increase of 36,607 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 301 COVID-19 related deaths: 39 from Eastern Cape, 23 from Gauteng, 154 from KwaZulu Natal, 22 from Western Cape, 21 from North West, 5 from Northern Cape and 37 from Limpopo. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 10,210.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
