The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 615,701.
This is an increase of 2,684 from Tuesday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 194 bringing the total to 13,502.
Gauteng has the most infections with 207,610 followed by Western Cape at 104,997, Eastern Cape at 85,472, KwaZulu-Natal 111,096, Free State 35,980, North West 24,646, Mpumalanga 23,555, Limpopo 12,795, Northern Cape 9,500 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 525,242 which translates to a recovery rate of 85%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,598,973 this is an increase of 20,137 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably we report a further 194 new COVID-19 related deaths: 57 from KwaZulu Natal, 61 from Gauteng, 4 from Northern Cape, 12 from Eastern Cape and 60 from Western Cape. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 13,502.
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
