SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 607,045 While Deaths Jump to 12,987

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 607,045.

This is an increase of 3,707 from Friday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 144 bringing the total to 12,987.

Gauteng has the most infections with 205,246 followed by Western Cape at 104,285, Eastern Cape at 85,039, KwaZulu-Natal 109,332, Free State 34,621, North West 24,185, Mpumalanga 22,902, Limpopo 12,389, Northern Cape 8,996 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 504,127 which translates to a recovery rate of 83%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,535,067 this is an increase of 30,560 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report a further 144 new COVID-19 related deaths: 25 from Eastern Cape, 37 from Gauteng, 46 from Mpumalanga, 31 from KwaZulu Natal and 5 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 12,987.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
