SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 521,318 – Deaths Jump to 8,884

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 521,318.

This is an increase of 4,456 from Monday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 345 bringing the total to 8,884.

Gauteng has the most infections with 183,090 followed by Western Cape at 97,261, Eastern Cape at 79,844, KwaZulu-Natal 85,986, Free State 24,333, North West 20,270, Mpumalanga 15,716, Limpopo 9,389, Northern Cape 5,379 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 363,751which translates to a recovery rate of 69,8%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,078,202 this is an increase of 19,507 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 345 COVID-19 related deaths: 43 from Eastern Cape, 116 from Gauteng, 89 from KwaZulu Natal, 97 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative number of COVID-19 related deaths to 8,884.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
