SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 471,123 – Deaths at 7,497

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 471,123.

This is an increase of 11,362 from Tuesday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 240 bringing the total to 7,497.

Gauteng has the most infections with 168,369 followed by Western Cape at 93,737, Eastern Cape at 75,872, KwaZulu-Natal 71,240, Free State 19,207, North West 18,231, Mpumalanga 12,442, Limpopo 7,840, Northern Cape 4,135 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 297,967 which translates to a recovery rate of 63%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,873,163 this is an increase of 42,528 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 240 COVID-19 related deaths: 34 from Eastern Cape, 156 from Gauteng, 27 from KwaZulu Natal and 23 from Western Cape. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 7,497.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
