South Africa has reached a grim milestone as the country breached the twenty thousand COVID-19 mark for new cases identified in the past twenty four hours with 21,832 infections recorded.
The Health Ministry says the latest cases published have pushed the known number of infections since the start of the outbreak to 1,149,591.
Another 844 people have also died after contracting the virus.
These latest fatalities bring the national death toll to 31,368.
The ministry says the recovery rate currently stands 80.8 % meaning that 929,239 people who have recuperated.
South Africa currently stand at number 16 globally in terms of the number of Coronavirus infections worldwide.
