The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 452,529.
This is an increase of 7,096 from Sunday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 298 bringing the total to 7,067.
Gauteng has the most infections with 162,319 followed by Western Cape at 92,600, Eastern Cape at 74,231, KwaZulu-Natal 65,982, Free State 17,222, North West 17,604, Mpumalanga 11,386, Limpopo 7,260, Northern Cape 3,875 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 274,925 which translates to a recovery rate of 61%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,802,211 this is an increase of 28,433 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 298 COVID-19 related deaths: 77 from Eastern Cape, 61 from Gauteng, 9 from KwaZulu Natal, 36 from Western Cape, 13 from Mpumalanga, 91 from the Free State and 11 from the North West. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 7,067.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
