SA COVID-19 Deaths Spike to 48, Infections at 2,605

The Health Department has announced that 48 people have now died from COVID-19 in South Africa while the infections have jumped to 2,605

This is an increase of 99 from Wednesday’s announcement.

Gauteng has the most infections with 969, followed by the Western Cape at 675, KwaZulu-Natal 539, Free State 98, North West 24, Mpumalanga 22, Limpopo 26, Eastern Cape 220, Northern Cape 16 and unallocated infections 16.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 95,060, this is an increase of 4,545 from the last report.

“It is with regret that we inform the public that the COVID-19 related deaths is now 48. We note that two provinces, ie, Limpopo and the Eastern Cape have also recorded their first deaths. We convey our condolences to the families. We continue to speak strength and appreciate our dedicated health workers who are faced with these circumstances daily.”

Mkhize says they are also encouraged by the increased number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 which stand 903 recoveries.
