SA COVID-19 Deaths Spike by 572 as Infections Increase to 394,948

South Africa has recorded 572 new fatalities from COVID-19.

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections have also increased to 394,948.

This is an increase of 13,150 from Tuesday’s announcement.

Gauteng has the most infections with 144,582 followed by Western Cape at 87,847, Eastern Cape at 67,818, KwaZulu-Natal 50,521, Free State 12,332, North West 15,073, Mpumalanga 8,286, Limpopo 5,712, Northern Cape 2,727 and unallocated infections 50.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 2,585,474  this is an increase of 48,553 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 572 COVID-19 related deaths – this brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 5,940.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
