SA COVID-19 Deaths Rise to 93, Infections Jump to 4,996

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 4,996

This is an increase of 203 from Monday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 3 bring the total to 93.

The Western Cape has the most infections with 1,870, followed by the Gauteng at 1,377, KwaZulu-Natal 919, Free State 113, North West 29, Mpumalanga 24, Limpopo 31, Eastern Cape 616, Northern Cape 17 and unallocated infections 0.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 185,497 this is an increase of 7,027 from the last report.

Mkhize says the three people that have died from COVID-19 had underlying conditions expressing his condolences to the affected families and appreciation to the health workers who treated the patients.

He added that South Africa had not seen a rapid rise of infection in way that it had done at the beginning of the outbreak.

“People need to understand the message of staying at home, the message of sanitising and wearing masks.”

Mkhize says the 217 doctors from Cuba would augment South African human resources emphasizing that they are in the country at South Africa’s request.
