The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 613,017.
This is an increase of 1,567 from Monday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 149 bringing the total to 13,308.
Gauteng has the most infections with 206,892 followed by Western Cape at 104,781, Eastern Cape at 85,311, KwaZulu-Natal 110,521, Free State 35,603, North West 24,445, Mpumalanga 23,336, Limpopo 12,703, Northern Cape 9,375 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 520,381 which translates to a recovery rate of 84%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,578,836 this is an increase of 12,237 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably we report a further 149 new COVID-19 related deaths: 35 from KwaZulu Natal, 54 from Gauteng, 16 from Mpumalanga, 10 from Northern Cape, 16 from Eastern Cape and 18 from Western Cape. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 13,308.
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
