SA COVID-19 Deaths Jump to 11,677, Infections Rise to 583,653

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 583,653.

This is an increase of 4,513 from Friday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 121 bringing the total to 11,677.

Gauteng has the most infections with 198,671 followed by Western Cape at 101,989, Eastern Cape at 83,671, KwaZulu-Natal 104,619, Free State 31,465, North West 23,093, Mpumalanga 20,915, Limpopo 11,445, Northern Cape 7,735 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 466,941 which translates to a recovery rate of 80%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,378,029 this is an increase of 26,918 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 121 new COVID-19 related deaths: 5 from Eastern Cape, 21 from Gauteng, 34 from KwaZulu Natal, 18 from Limpopo, 17 from Free State and 26 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 11,677.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
