SA COVID-19 Deaths at 9,909 While Infections Rise to 545,476

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 545,476.

This is an increase of 7,292 from Thursday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 305 bringing the total to 9,909.

Gauteng has the most infections with 189,159 followed by Western Cape at 99,027, Eastern Cape at 81,615, KwaZulu-Natal 92,844, Free State 26,877, North West 21,315, Mpumalanga 18,266, Limpopo 10,138, Northern Cape 6,185 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 394,759 which translates to a recovery rate of 72%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,183,658 this is an increase of 33,851 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably, we report a further 305 COVID-19 related deaths: 57 from Eastern Cape, 136 from Gauteng, 76 from KwaZulu Natal, 29 from Western Cape and 7 from Northern Cape. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 9,909.”

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
