SA COVID-19 Deaths at 13,743 as Infections Increase to 620,132

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 620,132.

This is an increase of 1,846 from Thursday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 115 bringing the total to 13,743.

Gauteng has the most infections with 208,579 followed by Western Cape at 105,507, Eastern Cape at 85,701, KwaZulu-Natal 111,863, Free State 36,742, North West 24,922, Mpumalanga 23,765, Limpopo 12,960, Northern Cape 10,043 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 533,935 which translates to a recovery rate of 86%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,632,311 this is an increase of 14,329 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 115 more COVID-19 related deaths: 14 from KwaZulu Natal, 47 from Gauteng, 10 from Eastern Cape, 10 from Western Cape, 16 from Northern Cape, 18 from Mpumalanga. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 13,743.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
