The newly established airline company, Lift, has expanded its flight routes and added flights between Johannesburg and Durban.

This comes after many airline companies, including South African Airways (SAA), Kulula.com, and British Airways, have lost their operating licences.

Lift says the first flights are expected to operate late next month, with three daily return flights.

According to LIFT’s co-founder Jonathan Ayache, flight routes between Cape Town and Durban will be added later this year.

“So around 16 flights a day, that’s eight returns and there is some short-term pressure but it is primarily driven by the cost of fuel. Jet fuel has tripled since we launched in December 2020,” says Ayache.

He adds: “If you fly last minute, then it is expensive but the trick is to book as far in advance as possible because you can get a very affordable flight if you do book in advance.”

LIFT is also offering flexible cancellations which can be done without any penalties or fees having to be paid.
