Several people are understood to have been injured after the roof of Fruit and Veg City Food Lovers Market collapsed in Lenasia.
The suburb was hit by a heavy hailstorm on Saturday, which also caused damage to the Trade Route Mall with the roof collapsing and water dripping from the ceiling.
Paramedics say they attended to several incidents during the heavy storm in parts of the south and west of Johannesburg.
ER24’s Russel Meiring said: “Shortly before 5pm, ER24 responded to a structural collapse in Lenasia. Reports were received that a roof collapsed at one of the malls. By the time paramedics arrived on scene‚ bystanders indicated that some people were already transported to nearby hospitals. Local fire and emergency services attended the scene.”
Reports of several minor collisions were also received during the storm.
