Motorists have been urged to avoid the Golden Highway near Zakariyya Park south of Johannesburg this evening due to violent protest action by residents of Lehae.
Its understood residents have barricaded the road with rocks and burning tyres and are protesting over the lack of electricity in the area.
Joburg Metro Police’s Wayne Minnaar says motorists should seek alternate routes.
“There are violent protests along the Golden Highway which is definitely not safe for motorists to drive through so I would advise motorists to use the K43 or the old Lawley road to get onto Golden Highway going pass R 554. So the R554 and Golden Highway is blocked off to traffic.”
