The Lenasia South Muslims Association (LSMA) says the renovation of Masjid Uthman Gani is in the final stages of completion.
Masjid Uthman Gani which was established more than twenty-five years ago serves a large part of the Muslim community in Lenasia South.
There are about four other masaajid in the suburb.
In recent times, the capacity of Masjid Uthman Gani has become too small to cater for the number of worshippers attending the prayer facility especially on Fridays, during the month of Ramadan and auspicious nights.
Masjid Uthman Gani trustee Muhammad Maiter says the completion of the masjid project is good news for the Lenasia South community.
“I think it’s going to be a facility which is going to be a bit unique in a sense that we haven’t seen such a masjid development within the Lenasia South community. For us it’s going to be an important milestone, particularly for the LSMA itself who’s running a couple of facilities at the moment. So it’s going to be a milestone for the community.”
Maiter says Masjid Uthman Gani includes a number of new improvements.
“The facility itself has obviously expanded. They have increased the number of ablution facilities which would include both wudhu facilities as well as toilet facilities. There is also a kitchen upstairs as well as a jamaat facility.”
Maiter has thanked the Muslim community for their generous donations urging residents to continue supporting the project.
The renovations to Masjid Uthman Gani was expected to be completed in September, but due to the COVID-19 lockdown, this has been pushed to the end of January 2021.
