Polokwane businessman Rameez Patel, who is standing trial on a charge of murdering his wife Fatima in 2015 has now been arrested for the alleged murder of his elderly mother.
It’s understood Patel was arrested on Friday in the Polokwane CBD after they linked him to the murder of his mother.
Mahejeen Banu Patel, was shot dead on 19 September at her home in Nirvana in Polokwane.
The elderly woman was rushed to hospital where she died a few hours later.
The police’s Moatshe Ngoepe says Patel is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
“I can confirm that we have successfully arrested a 30-year-old man who’s the son to the deceased in the Polokwane CBD following an intensive investigation by our detectives until they managed to link him up and which led to this arrest.”
Last year, Patels father 54-year-old Feroz was shot and killed by four unknown suspects.
Patel is charged with killing his wife Fatima at their rented Nirvana townhouse complex in Polokwane in 2015.
She was found with a gunshot wound to the head.
Patel claims he is innocent and that Fatima was killed by burglars.
He is also accused of killing Westenburg resident, Tony Adams in 2013.
Police say Adams was last seen entering Patel’s yard.
The state alleges Adams was then assaulted with a hockey stick and his body dumped at a supermarket parking lot in the area.
