President Cyril Ramaphosa will lead the country’s celebration of nearly three decades of freedom when he delivers the keynote address in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, today.

Today marks 28 years since the first democratic elections in South Africa, which saw the nation’s transition from apartheid and led to Nelson Mandela’s election as the first Black president of the country.

According to the Presidency, Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address at the Kees Taaljaard Stadium at 11 am under the theme “consolidate our democratic gains”.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) will visit impoverished communities in the Eastern Cape while Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema will address a rally in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria.
