Ramaphosa Spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa Dies at 56

The Presidency has announced that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa has died at the age of 56.

Mamoepa passed away at the Unitas Hospital in Pretoria late last night after battling complications arising from a stroke he suffered last month.

In a statement President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa have expressed sadness at the death of Mamoepa.

Mamoepa a former political prisoner and member of the Gauteng provincial legislature served the African National Congress (ANC) and various departments in government.

In his latest role, since 2014, Mamoepa served as Spokesperson for Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa extended his condolences to the family, comrades, friends and colleagues of Mamoepa.

“This is a great loss to me personally, to The Presidency and government at large.”

Condolences streamed in from politicians and the public as news spread of his passing.

Details of memorial events will be made known as soon as they are finalised with the Mamoepa family.
