President Cyril Ramaphosa has called a family meeting.
Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation at 8pm on Sunday evening in response to the developments to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The address follows meetings in recent days of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) and cabinet.
South Africa is currently on an adjusted level three of the COVID-19 lockdown.
The country has recorded more then 1.5 million infections, 49,941 deaths and more than 1.4 million recoveries.
