Dr. Terry Jones preposterous mission to hold his annual ritual of burning 2998 Holy Quraan's on the 11th September has sparked a retaliatory response from the Jamiatul Hufaaz.

The organisation based in Azaadville, South of Johannesburg will counter Jones threat and distribute the same amount of Quraan’s to highlight Jones dastardly act.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Ridwaan Varachia from the Jamiatul Hufaaz said that the initiative was decided by the committee of the Jamiatul Hufaaz after they heard the story on Al Masaa, Radio Islam’s afternoon drive program hosted by Mufti Moosagie.

Varachia said the collection of the Quraan’s is going to be done in conjunction with Sawtul Quraan, an organisation based in Azaadville that currently has a Quraan distribution project.

He said the distribution of the Quraan’s will take place locally and the surrounding countries but due to time constraints would not be distributed internationally.

Varachia said the collection will be two fold where they will be collecting money and Quraan’s. “Where we’ve collected the money that we’ll distribute internationally because they’ve already got distribution centres there. So we’ll immediately forward the money there and they’ll distribute it on that day,” he said.

“For the hard copies of the Quraan that we collect, that Insha’allah we’ll distribute locally to madaaris and makhtabs within South Africa,” added Varachia.

Jamiatul Hufaaz hopes to collect all the Quraan’s by the 9th of September for distribution on the 11th.
