Qur’an’s Untouched & Un-Burnt in Cape Town Mazaar Blaze

August 08, 2018

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 08-08-2018

The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) says while there was extensive damages to the Sayed Mahmud Mazaar in Constantia, the Qur’ans remain untouched and un-burnt during the fire.

The Mazaar’s (fondly known as Kramats) was set alight on Tuesday by unknown perpetrators.

According to the caretaker, two men asked to enter the premises to perform Fajr Salaah at the Mazaar and when he came out of his house, he saw the Mazaar on fire.

The perpetrators fled the scene.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Head of the Muslim Cemetery Board and 2nd President of the MJC Shaykh Riad Fataar says the Mazaar has suffered major damages after the arson attack.

“Apparently the green dome has also been smashed. I was just telling the people in the masjid during Maghrib, that amazingly the cupboard got burnt, but the Qur’ans were untouched.”

Shaykh Fataar says the Muslim community is heart broken by the incident.

“It’s very disappointing when somebody comes and burns a qabr. Tomorrow you could be lying there. Islam goes to the extent that we don’t even walk across a qabr to show that kind of respect. That respect as shown in life must be shown in death also.”

Shaykh Fataar has urged the Muslim community to generously donate funds to assist in the rebuilding of the Mazaar.

The Mazaar’s are graves of influential Muslims who, under the yoke of oppression and torture, spread the religion of Islam.
