The family of Qari Zaid Kara have confirmed that he has successfully undergone the first surgery to deal with abdominal injuries after sustaining eight gunshot wounds in a robbery at his parent’s home in Maraisburg, Johannesburg.
“We must thank Allah (S.W.T), because it could have been much worse,” said Ml. Anees Kara, brother of Qari Zaid, In an interview on Radio Islam.
On Monday, Qari Kara had just returned from teaching Hifdh classes when he was shot by armed burglars who made off with valuables at his parents’ Maraisburg home.
“They were very well dressed – they had bullet vests and side holsters. They looked very professional, like a security company or something of the sort,” said Ml. Kara.
“He sustained eight bullet wounds. Last night, they took him in for emergency surgery on the abdomen. The surgeons then told us that there’s one of two ways it could go: the one way is that if they were not able to [repair] the colon, they will have to leave Qari Saheb open and on a ventilator.
“Alhamdulillah, that first surgery went well. They didn’t have to put him on a ventilator and they managed to repair the injuries,” he said.
Ml. Kara confirmed that Qari Zaid will on Wednesday (11 May) undergo further operations to deal with injuries to the right femur and pelvic bone.
