Four police officers stationed at The Pretoria Central police station were arrested by the Metro police in Thswane on Wednesday for allegedly hijacking a bakkie from a Pakistani National commuting to the home affairs office in the Pretoria CBD and will appear in court soon.
Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said it is “alleged that the police members would desert their post whilst on duty and pry on their targets before pouncing on their victims.”
The suspects embarked on their illegal activity. Unbeknown to them, they too were under surveillance by law-abiding members of a multi-disciplinary team, compromising the Tactical Operations Management Section, Tshwane Metro Police, Pretorian Saturation Unit and Crime Intelligence.” said Mogale.
As they attempted to flee from the scene, the sting unit discharged on them wherein four suspects were arrested, and two others abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.
The officers would answer to charges of robbery, possession of the suspected stolen property and defeating the ends of justice when they appear in court, Mogale said.
