A 25-year-old Pretoria mother and her two children are fearing for their lives after she reported two Tshwane Metro Police officers for allegedly threatening to shoot one of her children, a three-year-old toddler with a firearm.
Eye Witness News reports Linda Robertse was returning home after picking up her daughter Magda on Monday when she was pulled over by a TMPD officer in western Pretoria.
It’s alleged that one of the TMPD officers tried to solicit a bribe from Robertse after she failed to produce a driver’s license. She refused to hand over money, saying she only had money to buy bread for her children.
Robertse claims the officer then reportedly leant into the car and grabbed whatever coins he could find from the child and the ashtray. He then allegedly told the child to shut up or he would shoot her.
“What are they going to do to us when he gets fired or gets into trouble? The children are at home, they are not at school because the little one is crying, saying the policeman wants to shoot her so what must we do now?” Robertse told EWN.
According to a statement issued by Crime Line and Justice Project South Africa (JPSA) the two officers were arrested by Tuesday evening.
“The matter was reported to Hercules Police Station and after an intensive investigation the two Metro cops involved were arrested this evening,” The statement read.
“The crimes that these officers are alleged to have committed are very serious indeed and should be treated as such.”
Last month Crimeline head Yusuf Abramjee was also stopped by Tshwane Metro Police officers and a bribe was solicited by one of the officers.
