Pravin Gordhan: The Sooner Guptas Get Out of SA, the Better

November 20, 2017

Faizel Patel, Radio Islam News – 20-11-2017

Former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says South Africans must stand united in the fight against state capture and the sooner the Gupta’s get out of South Africa, the better it will be for the country.

Gordhan was speaking during the Congress of Business and Economics (CBE) Recognition Awards at the Palm Continental Hotel in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Gordhan and his former deputy Mcebesi Jonas received awards for the excellent service to South Africa and communities across the country.

This year’s awards were in commemoration of the role played by late struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada who championed non-racialism and in the latter part of his life expressed his disappointment with the leadership of the African National Congress (ANC), a party that he so passionately supported.

Gordhan says state capture is a cancer spreading every single day both in the public and private sector..

“We haven’t head a singular voice yet, a collective voice that says to the Gupta family ‘you don’t represent who we are. You don’t reflect what our ethos and our principles are. In fact, the sooner you get out of South Africa, the better for all of us.’”

He says recent revelations around KPMG, McKinsey, Bell Pottinger, and the role they have played in state capture must be condemned.

“Having a few months of challenging this environment, of challenging state capture, of challenging the way in which the leadership of this country, or some of the leadership in this country and in the ANC are conducting themselves. The question is how do we stop and how do we curtail the spread of this cancer?”

Gordan and Jonas dedicated their awards to the men and women at the National Treasury and the South African Revenue Services (SARS)
