Police are searching for a group of suspects after they robbed a security guard who was transporting cash in a private vehicle from the Hamidia Mosque in Newton Johannesburg.

It’s understood the criminals attacked the security guards yesterday shortly after midday prayers before fleeing the scene.

The police’s Lungello Dlamini says they are investigating a case of armed robbery and attempted murder.

“The suspects fired several shots and they managed to take the money from the van and fled. At this stage no one has been arrested, but we have launched a manhunt for them.”

Dlamini has urgent anyone with information about the incident to contact the police.
