Police have launched a manhunt for suspects in the kidnapping of 45-year-old Ashraf Laher. Businessman Laher was taken in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape, on Wednesday, 19.10.22.

According to the Office of the Provincial Commissioner, SAPS Gelvandale received a complaint of a hijacking and kidnapping, reported by the community in the Korsten area. Laher was driving his white Ford Ranger in Durban Road, Korsten, at roughly 12.30pm when he was approached by an unidentified suspect, who pointed a firearm at him. The gunmen then, along with three other suspects, entered Laher’s vehicle, and allegedly drove off with him.

Laher’s Ford Ranger was subsequently found abandoned in Eveready Road, in Sidwell, at approximately 2pm.

Laher is a South African citizen. A case of hijacking and kidnapping has been opened at SAPS Gelvandale, by Laher’s wife.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has ordered the activation of the 72-hour mobilization plan to trace, track and arrest the culprits as fast as possible. Anyone with information as to Laher’s possible whereabouts, is requested to contact with the Galvendale Police Station, or to call the Crime Stop on 08 600 10 111.
